In the ArtPostAI community, we know both AI and art. And we just discovered a very important insight the future of Art.
The future of AI in art is interactive.
What you'll learn in this blog post :
The BIG advantage for traditional artists in the age of AI
Why the future of AI in art is interactive
A thought experiment at the end that'll probably improve your artistic vision. It might even give you directly applicable ideas for art.
How to get my help in realizing your ideas.
If you want to go more in depth, you can check out this video :
In the last blog post on this website, we went through the history of the recent AI art craze.
Our perspective now enriched, we're ready to go into the future of AI.
PART 1 : THE ADVANTAGE FOR TRADITIONAL ARTISTS
Do you think AI art is boring ?
In the video below, we establish that there is going to be a way through the uncreativity of AI.
But fear not ! There still remains something for traditional artists. Something BIG.
As I put it, we are AI's mother nature.
So what does that mean?
first of all, we are surrounded by nature. Nature is all we see. Everything around us is part of nature. We are nature ourselves. If you think about where AI lives, it is surrounded by us. It is surrounded by our work. And our productions are all that AI sees.
Secondly, we copy Mother Nature and call it art. And AI copies us and calls it art.
The more you think about it, the more it makes sense. When nature produces a tree, we think it's marvelous. And we have no idea how it does it. Flowers, the sky, everything around us. We have no idea how it comes to be.
And AI looks at us the same way.
Because when you sit down at your desk and you create something truly new, when you act as if you are AI's mother nature, then AI looks at you and thinks, this is just the same thing as a tree growing in a field with a bunch of flowers around it.
So even though there is a way through the uncreativity of AI, we still have a very strong advantage as traditional artists.
We are AI's Mother Nature. And we can really capitalize on that in the future.
I'd like you to stop for a minute and ponder the following questions :
How can I apply this to my art ?
How can I use my spontaneity?
How can I use my access to things outside of the internet world, outside of the digital world, to increase the interesting-ness of my art, to dig deeper into my own mind?
How can I use this organic-ness of my life to enrich my art beyond what ai can reach reach through its internet bound life ?
By the way, stay tuned, because I will go very in depth about this in multiple future blog post. I'll give examples and inspirational models to follow.
PART 2 : THE FUTURE OF AI IS INTERACTIVE
Now here's the new insight.
And I want to put it to the test of you guys' scrutiny in the comments, so don't be afraid to really criticize it down below.
For those who want to integrate AI into their work and yet not suffer the limitations inherent to AI, the path forward is that of integrating AI into a spontaneous, interactive experience
For instance
if you're editing images using AI, but you're making the images yourself.
If you have an AI running on your tablet screen, giving you nudges through text or voice in an interactive experience.
If you actually have the AI drawing at the same time as you in real time. And you could integrate this into your drawing software or whatever.
If you actually build robots that draw at the same time as you and then you're just collaborating with the AI.
This way, you're able to capitalize on both the alien-mindedness and efficiency of AI AND your status as AI's mother nature
Then, you're really placing yourself far in the future, using the benefits of both sides and canceling out the the disadvantages.
This is already starting to happen with artists such as Sungwen Cheng. She's already sensed this great opportunity and she's making robots that draw at the same time as her (among many other things.
And we think this is definitely going to be a big thing in the future of art.
PART 3 : THOUGHT EXPERIMENT
If the future of AI in art is collaboration, then how can you collaborate with an AI model in a way that makes your work more interesting, more efficient, or even completely different, and yet allows you to retain the immediacy, spontaneity, and possibly even the physicality of your work?
Really stop and ask yourself that question. You're a creative. Ideas should be flowing in your head.
Personally, I have a lot of ideas of how to do this that I wrote down. And I won't do them for myself because I want to stay traditional as an artist.
In a future blog post, I'll list some of them for you guys to get inspired by.
I encourage you to think really hard about this. This is the kind of stuff that will draw a lot of interest in the future. And you might just have a very, very good idea by thinking hard about it.
Last thing...
